BOULDER GRAVEL (2024)

BACK TO PROJECTS

Concept:

In the build up to the launch of the DRX DEFY GRAVEL and the overall launch of the gravel category at Salomon, we produced an immersive event in Boulder to transport a group of select media, influencers, and S/PLUS (Salomon loyalty program) members into the mindset of gravel and celebrate the surface.

We built an experience to celebrate the spirit of exploration of the surface and a celebration of Salomon’s brand heritage to set the tone of Salomon’s past, present, and future.

The creative direction for the activation was inspired both by Salomon’s brand heritage and the uncharted territory of gravel. Salomon was built in a family workshop – it’s first innovation being the edges on skis. Year over year, the company continued to tinker in wintersports, in outdoor, and in running to consistently look for the best solutions for the athlete and adventurer.

Workshop:

We located a former auto-body shop converted to be the office space and warehouse for Canoe Club provided a perfect discrete location on Pearl Street in Boulder.

We converted the whole space as an homage to the brand. Shelves adorned with prototypes and archival product(includinga race worn Kilian Journet shoe) and vignettes of upcoming product across S/LAB, trail, and road categories.

To further immerse guests in the experience, we hosted two exercises to replicate the experience of an HQ - workshop: 1) a “how to build a shoe” exercise to discuss every part of problem-solving all the way down to the material selection; and 2) a “seasonal moodboard exercise” where guests made the moodboard for their upcoming season and presented to the group to drive community connection.

Zine:

To continue the DIY theme, we created a Zine to express gravel to our guests visually and with short prose. Often synonymous with the underground music scene, zines have long been utilized as a means to create programs for bands and concerts in basement shows. Hand-drawn, hand-written, hand-bound.
